The 2026 American Mahjong Card Explained

How to read the NMJL 2026 card β€” the five sections, suit/color constraints, special tiles, and the hands you will actually build.

Reading the card sections

The 2026 National Mah Jongg League card is split into five sections: 2026, 2468, Quints, Consecutive Runs and 13579, plus a Winds section. Each section lists hands of increasing difficulty β€” pungs, kongs, quints and runs.

Suit and color constraints

On the card, black numbers may be played in any suit, while green numbers must all be the same suit and red numbers must share a second suit. A hand marked "Any 2 Suits" lets you choose freely; the site checks these constraints automatically when you match a hand.

Jokers and special tiles

Jokers substitute for any tile in pungs, kongs and quints β€” but never in pairs, singles, or on the 2026/NEWS tiles themselves. Flowers count as wild for matching. This site bundles the full 2026 card and validates every hand against it.
